Site Survey & Measured Drawings Service

Accurate drawings start with accurate measurement. That sounds obvious - but it's where a lot of draughting work falls short. Measurements taken without proper engineering understanding of what's being measured, or without experience of how drawings will be used, produce drawings that look complete but cause problems when work starts on site.

I offer a complete site survey and measured drawing service - visiting your site, taking precise measurements, understanding the existing conditions and constraints, and producing accurate drawings that genuinely reflect what's there. Whether you need as-built drawings of existing plant, survey drawings for a modification project, or measured drawings of a space for a new installation, I can manage the survey and drawing work as a single, reliable service.

How a custom site-survey and measurement project works

A typical survey project runs as follows: we agree what information is needed and what drawings are to be produced; I visit the site and carry out the survey; I produce the drawings from my home office in Cornwall and deliver files in your preferred format - whether that’s 2D or 3D.

For straightforward surveys this is usually a single visit. For larger or more complex sites - production facilities, multi-level structures, sites with restricted access - the survey may require more time on site. I'm experienced in working in live production environments and around operational plant.

Why Measurement Is a Skill in Itself

Taking accurate site measurements for engineering drawings requires more than a tape measure and a notebook. It requires understanding which dimensions are critical and which are reference only, how to deal with structures that aren't square or level, how to identify hidden constraints that will affect the installation, and how to record information in a way that translates reliably into accurate drawings back at the desk.

I've been carrying out site surveys for engineering projects for over 40 years - for pump stations, production facilities, steelwork installations, and general engineering modifications. That experience means I know what to look for, what to measure, and how to record it so the drawings produced from the survey are correct and precise.

  • Yes. Several clients use me on an ongoing basis - calling on drawing resource as projects demand rather than maintaining in-house draughting capacity permanently. If you'd like to establish a regular working arrangement, get in touch and we can discuss how that would work.

  • Yes, I work in both Inventor (3D) and in AutoCAD (2D). Get in touch to discuss the types of projects I can work on.

  • We offer flexible pricing based on project type and complexity. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs.

  • Yes. For projects that require a site survey, on-site liaison, or working directly with an engineering or production team, I'm available to travel. I cover the Southwest regularly - Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset - and I frequently take on work in Yorkshire and the wider North of England where a good deal of my manufacturing and steelwork client base is located. For projects elsewhere in the UK, travel can be discussed depending on the size of the project.

  • I'm based in East Cornwall. Most of my work is carried out remotely from my home office - which suits the majority of technical drawing projects perfectly well. I also work regularly with clients in Yorkshire, where I have long-standing relationships with engineering and manufacturing businesses, and I take on site work across the Southwest as a matter of course.

  • I work primarily from my home office in Cornwall, which means I can take on projects quickly without travel overhead. For projects that benefit from on-site working — site surveys, liaison with production teams, or direct collaboration with engineers — I'm available to work at client premises.
