Inventor 3D Drawings

Inventor 3D Drawings Service
I produce 3D solid models and derived engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor - working from design briefs, sketches, physical measurements, or existing 2D drawings to build accurate, detailed models and production-ready outputs.
I completed Autodesk Inventor Essentials training in 2024, adding 3D capability to over 40 years of mechanical engineering draughting experience.
The combination matters: 3D modelling software is only as useful as the engineering judgement behind it. I understand how components are manufactured, how assemblies go together, and how to build models that translate reliably into drawings people can actually build from.
3D Modelling Backed by Real Engineering Experience
There's a difference between someone who knows how to use Inventor and someone who understands what the model will eventually become. A 3D model produced without engineering knowledge of how things are made can look correct on screen but produce drawings that cause problems in fabrication.
My background is in mechanical engineering draughting — understanding how parts are machined, fabricated, and assembled. That foundation means the 3D models I produce are built with manufacturing in mind from the start, not just geometric shapes that happen to be 3D.

I can work from whatever you have. Most Inventor projects start from 2D drawings, sketches, or physical measurements - I build the 3D model from that information. If you have existing 3D data in another format such as STEP or IGES, I can also import and work with that as a starting point.
-
Yes. Converting legacy 2D drawings to 3D models is something I do regularly. It's useful when you want to visualise a design, generate CNC files from existing parts, or bring an older design into a modern 3D workflow. Send me the 2D DWG files and a description of what you need from the 3D model and I'll give you an indication of timescales.
-
It depends on scope. A single detail drawing needed urgently can often be turned around quickly dependent on my other projects. A full drawing package for a new machine or installation will take longer - I'll give you a realistic timescale when I understand the full scope. I don't overpromise on turnaround and I don't miss deadlines.

We offer flexible pricing based on project type and complexity. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs.

Yes. For projects that require a site survey, on-site liaison, or working directly with an engineering or production team, I'm available to travel. I cover the Southwest regularly - Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset - and I frequently take on work in Yorkshire and the wider North of England where a good deal of my manufacturing and steelwork client base is located. For projects elsewhere in the UK, travel can be discussed depending on the size of the project.

I'm based in East Cornwall. Most of my work is carried out remotely from my home office - which suits the majority of technical drawing projects perfectly well. I also work regularly with clients in Yorkshire, where I have long-standing relationships with engineering and manufacturing businesses, and I take on site work across the Southwest as a matter of course.

Yes, alongside Inventor I also work in AutoCAD. Get in touch to discuss the types of projects I can work on in 2D.

Across my career I've worked in manufacturing, steelworks, mining, construction, water and environment infrastructure, powdered metals, packaging machinery, architectural metalwork, and specialist process plant. The full list of sectors is on the About page — but the short answer is that if it involves mechanical engineering, I've most likely worked in or adjacent to it.
